Residents young and old are excited for one of the most anticipated developments in New Haven set to open in December: the world’s largest indoor Sky Trail® ropes course attraction made by U.S. manufacturer Ropes Courses, Inc. The attraction, It Adventure Ropes Course, will be located in the brand-new Jordan’s Furniture store known for combining entertainment and retail experiences.
With hundreds of Sky Trail® ropes courses worldwide, Ropes Courses, Inc. is proud to offer a product that matches the needs of many industries including retail centers because they provide a multi-dimensional experience for people of all ages. Having just opened a similar Sky Trail® at Jordan’s Furniture in Reading, Mass. in December of last year, both companies knew they hit the gold mine with entertainment.
“The Sky Trail® is extremely popular at the Reading store and continues to be well-attended and attracts a range of customers. We’re very excited to pair with Jordan’s again for a second attraction,” said RCI owner Jim Liggett. The 5,800 square-foot attraction extends from wall to wall in one of Jordan’s massive show rooms.
“Our engineers and designers worked with Jordan’s blue prints and we pushed the limitations. Eliot (Tatelman, owner of Jordan’s Furniture) wanted something bigger and badder than the first course he owns, so we gave it to him!” said Liggett.
Two Sky Trail® Explorer ropes courses standing over 5 stories tall are on either end. Each course has 4 levels of rope obstacles such as cargo nets, zigzag beams, bumpy hand lines and rope bridges at varying levels of difficulty. The courses incorporate 4 Sky Rail™ rigid zip tracks spanning over 180’ long. Thatis nearly double the length of the longest current Sky Rail™ in operation worldwide. Participants ascend 1 course and soar up to 12 mph over a 1,000-nozzle water fountain equipped with state of the art lights, sound and music down a Sky Rail™ to reach the other course.
“People won’t be going to Jordan’s for just furniture shopping. This attraction will seeyouth groups, birthday parties, team building events and families of all ages,” said RCI Marketing Manager Lori Gunthorp. “It will be the hang out place for kids to release some energy and experience something new in a safe environment.”
Wait. There’s more.
One Sky Trail® is equipped with 2 Quick Jump free-fall devices as well. This ride gives participants the thrilling sensation of a true free fall at 48’ before comfortably lowering them to the ground.
There are also 4 separate challenge climb activities that stand under 35’ tall, which customers can experience without going on the ropes course. In addition there is the Sky Tykes™ ropes course to accommodate participants as young as 2 years old. Kidsunder 48” tall can “learn the ropes” on the Tykes course before trying the larger Sky Trail®.
“This project was a lot of fun to plan,” said Liggett. “We’re excited to bring a family friendly leisure attraction to New Haven for people to enjoy a fun, physical activity in one of the last places they’d expect.”
Participants will reach new heights of fun both physically and mentally. Of course, safety is a big factor in making sure participants have a good time. Each person is equipped with a safety harness and a redundant sling line. The sling line is secured in the overhead track before they leave the ground. This connection allows the participant to maneuver through the course at their own pace in any direction they choose. It also eliminates the need for additional safety equipment or participant training. They spend about 30 to 60 minutes on the course, depending on how busy it is at a given time.
Certified operators are responsible for hooking and unhooking patrons. No waivers are required.
It will be open during Jordan’s normal operating hours, Mon.-Thurs. 10am-9pm, Fri.-Sat. 10am-10pm, and Sun. 11am-7pm. For more information visit the company Facebook page: It Adventure Ropes Course.
