DESCRIPTION:With the shared mission of providing reliable and timely information\, as well as representing the well-being of our community and local economy\, the Allegan District Library\, in partnership with the Allegan Area Chamber of Commerce and the Allegan County News\, will host a formal question-and-answer forum in advance of the November 5th election of City Council members. \nThis is your opportunity to meet the candidates\, learn about their positions on relevant issues\, and to measure their demeanor and competence when addressing those issues in public.  The forum will include introductions and opening position statements followed by the delivery of prepared and audience questions.  Each candidate will be permitted to answer or decline each of the questions.  The event will follow a forum protocol and is not a debate.  The forum will be streamed to Facebook Live.  Like the City Council roles\, the forum will be strictly independent of sectarian affiliation\, will be non-partisan\, and non-denominational in its approach to the question and answers. \nTo submit a question for consideration in advance of the forum\, email it to Library Director Ryan Deery at rdeery@alleganlibrary.org. DESCRIPTION:Wings of Hope Hospice is sponsoring a Death Café.  This event is a part of a growing worldwide phenomenon where people\, often strangers\, gather to talk about death and eat good food. \nDeath Café is scheduled for Tuesday\, October 22\, from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Wings of Hope Hospice office conference room located at 530 Linn St. in Allegan\, across from Ascension – Allegan Hospital. \nThe objective of Death Café is to ‘increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives’.  Death Café was founded by Jon Underwood in England in 2011 based on the work of Bernard Crettaz\, a Swiss sociologist.  Lizzy Miles was the first person to offer Death Café in the U.S. \nIndividuals may participate according to their level of comfort.  The conversation will be thoughtful\, respectful and confidential.  The event is free and complimentary hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be served.  To attend\, please RSVP by calling the Wings of Hope Hospice office by October 15th at 800-796-2676 or 269-686-8659.   Seating is limited.

SUMMARY:Hearts and Hands Celebration
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Hearts and Hands Celebration will take place on Thursday\, October 24th at the Laketown Golf and Conference Center in Saugatuck.  The event begins at 6:00 pm and ends at 9:00 pm. Heavy Hors-d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available.  Business casual attire is encouraged. \nThe evening will feature community partner recognition\, a silent auction and the opportunity to support Community Action’s work.  Attendees and supporters of the organization have the opportunity to assist families striving to achieve a better life.  The organization anticipates 200 attendees\, including business and community leaders\, elected officials\, program partners\, and supporters. Sponsorship opportunities are available ranging from the $250 level to $1\,000 level.
