Building Homes, Communities, and Hope with Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity
Since 1990, Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity has been putting God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope in Allegan, Ottawa, and Van Buren Counties. Through affordable homeownership and critical home repair programs, Lakeshore Habitat partners with individuals and families earning 30-80% of the area median income who struggle to find stable, affordable housing.
Unlike traditional housing assistance programs, Lakeshore Habitat does not give away homes. Instead, they journey alongside homeowner partners, who complete educational classes and sweat equity hours before purchasing their home through an affordable mortgage—ensuring no family spends more than 29% of their income on housing.
To date, Lakeshore Habitat has built over 175 homes, helping families achieve stability in a home they can afford. In the past five years, they have increased their new builds by 600%, responding to the growing need for affordable housing by partnering with like-minded nonprofits to expand their impact.
