Job Description
Title: Director of the Allegan County Legal Assistance Center
Hours: Up to 40 hours per week.
Starting Pay Rate: $12 per hour. Please note: this position is part-time and will not include benefits.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate must be willing to provide customer service to individuals who are representing themselves in court using the Legal Assistance Center, providing technical and basic user support on computer software. He/she will make independent decisions assessing each individual’s requests and the manner in which help will be provided, as well as answering questions and educating self-represented litigants about materials and resources available in the Legal Assistance Center. The Director will act as a liaison between self-represented litigants and the Court Clerk’s Office. Other duties will include filing, copying, downloading of forms, assisting in maintaining self-help materials, and completing reports of the number of individuals assisted and demographic data from an online survey completed by the customers of the Legal Assistance Center.
The Director will also be responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and training all volunteers.
Abilities
The successful candidate must have a college degree or equivalent, although a degree is preferred; be friendly and outgoing; possess excellent computer and communication skills; maintain a professional appearance; and effectively relate to the many different kinds of people who will use the Legal Assistance Center, demonstrating an awareness of others and sensitivity to various cultures and learning styles. Candidates should possess some familiarity with legal issues and forms. The ability to work independently with little supervision is important.
